Accessing a resource (viewing a TOTP code)

How to access a resource and view a live TOTP code — whether it's instant access or requires approval.

Before you begin

Follow the account setup instruction to download the Castle mobile app and enroll your device.

Accessing a resource

All resources that a member has been granted access to are visible on the resources tab in the Castle mobile app. Select a resource to open the resource detail view.

Instant access

If there is no approval required for this resource, the Generate Code button will be visible. Push Generate Code and the TOTP codes will be securely computed within 30s. When codes are no longer required, press Expire Access to end your current session. All instant access sessions end in 1 hour if Expire Access is not pressed. A new session can be started at any time using the Generate Code Button.

Approval Required

If approvals are required, a Request Access button will be visible. Select the amount of time that access is needed. (Access window begins once Generate Codes is pressed, not when approval is requested or approved.)  Enter a reason in the input box that can be shown to the approver and logged. Your current location is also recorded, shown to the approver, and logged.

Once the request is made, the resource will show Pending Approval until your request is approved, denied, or expired. Requests automatically expire after 24 hours and can be manually withdrawn using the Cancel Request button.

Once your request is approved the Generate Codes button will be available. Press Generate Codes once the request is approved. This will compute codes for the window of time requested and the access window begins.
