Registering your Authentication Device
You will register your device twice, once to secure your login, and once inside Bunker to secure your backup. This article covers both, in order to better understand what one does and why both are important.
Part 1: Registering for Login (MFA)
Right after you create your password for the first time, you'll be prompted to register an authentication device. This sets up multi-factor authentication (MFA) so that only you can log in to your account.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete this step. Once done, you'll be logged in.
Part 2: Registering Inside Bunker (Secures Your Backup)
Once you're logged in, you'll see an Action Item on your Bunker dashboard prompting you to register your device. This is not a repeat of Part 1, it's what actually protects your backup.
Why this step matters: Registering your device here links a unique credential from that device to the encryption protecting your backup. In other words, your device becomes one of the keys needed to unlock your backup later and is what allows you to decrypt and recover it when the time comes.
How to Register
- From your dashboard, complete the Register Device Action Item (or click Register your authenticator)
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your device
- Enter your PIN
- Complete the remaining on-screen steps
Tip: You'll use this same PIN for all future device actions — you won't be asked to create a new one each time.
